First Time Away

I managed to survive.

I left my baby.

I had a wind up staff party for our school and we thought since we were so close to home, we could try to manage leaving Eden at our house with her Oma. I did it. And I only phoned home twice in 5 hours! (pat on the back for me there!)

And she's in the same shape we left her! On the second phone call when perhaps she should be in bed (cough, cough, Oma)....she was eating popcorn twists while Oma braided her hair. I think this was much harder on mommy than Eden. It felt so weird to leave her. I kept thinking, where's Eden? What's she doing now?

She was sure excited to see me this morning, though! And Oma said that she was kind of like, where's my mom when she woke up from her nap yesterday. (yay)

Oh how I know that feeling, and I honestly don't think that worry ever goes away! I am so nervous about leaving our 3 year old behind when we go to Africa to pick up our son. Oh the Mummy Guilt! But eventually we have to let them out on their own, otherwise they will still be in our basement at 40 years old, eating us out of house and home. :)

I left Josina with my brother and sister-in-law for 6 hours last month to go to the spa with my mom. When I returned I was like "ta-da" mommy's here baby! Baby? Mommy's here...she was eating and couldn't care less. She looked at me like "what? you went somewhere?"...I was so sad, lol.

Only 2 phone calls, such restraint. :)

Glad that you (and Eden) survived! It is great to have family there to help out when needed!

Good for you Rhonda. I can feel your pain reading the post. You wait so long it's hard to let go... Hope you had a good time at the party!

Good job! It's amazing how those grandmothers can just magically take care of children, isn't it? You'd think they had some experience or something. ;)

Good for you! It is hard to them them with someone for the first time, isn't it? It took me 4 months to leave Kumera with someone for the first time and I cried as we left.
